Book now or risk missing out: families warned of 2027 summer holiday squeeze
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks urges parents to secure next summer’s break as school calendars overlap in August.
The earlier Easter holidays in 2027 is condensing the school break schedule, creating overlap that will heighten competition for holiday stays.
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks conducted an analysis of 100 English local-authority calendars and found that overlapping school calendars could focus demand on a limited choice of summer dates, making it harder for families booking later to secure their preferred break.
The research identified where school dates overlap and where breaking up partway through a week could limit families’ options for a full-week break. It shows four consecutive weeks when every area is on summer holiday in 2027, compared with three in 2026.
This means demand in the spring and summer could become concentrated into approximately nine core school holiday weeks, compared with 11 in 2026.
When different areas take their breaks at different times, hospitality and leisure businesses can welcome families over a longer period. When those dates overlap more closely, demand can become concentrated into fewer weeks.
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks expects the pattern to make early planning particularly valuable for larger families, groups travelling together and guests who need accessible accommodation or want specific features such as a hot tub.

“You may have only just unpacked from this summer, but if you’re planning a family break in 2027, now is a good time to get ahead.
“When school holidays overlap, families can find themselves competing for the same dates and accommodation. The more specific your requirements, the more important it becomes to plan early.
“There are other approaches worth exploring. In the Netherlands, school holidays are staggered by region, spreading demand across a longer summer season. A similar approach here could give families more accommodation choice, ease traffic congestion and reduce competition for the most popular holiday weeks.
“For destinations such as North Devon, spreading family visits across a longer season could also support steadier trade for accommodation providers, restaurants and attractions, and more consistent work for seasonal staff.
“For families planning next year’s holiday, our advice is simple: check your school’s confirmed dates, agree your annual leave and book as early as you can once your plans are settled. That gives you the best chance of securing your preferred break, particularly if you need a larger property, accessible accommodation or a dog-friendly stay.”
