The best dog walks near Woolacombe

Woolacombe village and its surrounding area are not only a perfect holiday destination for humans but also for our four-legged friends. Your dog is part of your family, so when you book your holiday in Devon, it is important to do your research and find the best walks in the surrounding area. As well as finding where to go for walkies, it is important to ensure that you choose the perfect dog-friendly accommodation.

Continue reading to find some of the best dog walking spots to visit when staying at one of our three dog-friendly holiday parks near Woolacombe.

Barricane Beach dog walks

A charming cove nestled between the cliffs, Barricane beach is dog friendly throughout the year, however, there are still a couple of rules. During the high season months, that is from May to September, dogs must be kept on a leash. Then between October and April they can roam freely. As well as a stroll along the sand, there are walks off of the beach where there are plenty of rock pools to explore, or if you prefer more of an expedition, there are some scenic coastal walks towards Mortehoe.

Barricane Beach is the closest beach to our Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, making it the perfect place for a dog walk before heading back to the park to relax in your dog-friendly accommodation.

Distance from our North Devon holiday parks:

Saunton Sands

Saunton Sands is a 3.5 miles long stretch of sand and is open for dog walks all year round. There are 3 zones for dogs: Zone A, B, and C. Zone A is where dogs are unfortunately banned; they must be kept on a leash in Zone B, and they are allowed without the leash in Zone C. You will find dog bins and free waste bags in the area. There are cattle in the sand dunes which are moved around so it is worth checking the location of the cattle when you visit so that you can ensure your dog is on the lead if walking past the herd.

Rockham Beach

You can tour Rockham Beach with your four-legged friend at any time of the year. If you plan to walk there then you must make sure that your dog can go up or down steps (or go on an uphill or downhill path), or else you should be prepared to carry them. In any case, the views of this beach make the incline worth every second.

It is important to check the tide times as at high tide access to the beach is slightly restricted. You can check the tide times here.

Bennett's Mouth

Bennett’s Mouth is a favourite due to the walking trail, hiking area, and the fact that it is often quieter than the other busier beaches near Woolacombe. It is the perfect place for you and your dog to get some fresh air and enjoy a beautiful landscape. Bennett's Mouth itself is a pretty, secluded cove at the mouth of the Kinever Valley between Mortehoe and Lee. You can find more details about a 3 mile walking trail around Bennett’s Mouth in this blog about local walks.

You are bound to love the beautiful landscape on this walk and your dog will love to stretch their legs and explore the new area.

There is one small area of the beach where dogs are not allowed, but apart from that, you have more than 2 miles where you can walk your pet freely.
